Our Team

Providing Relaxed and Respectful Funeral Services Since 1989

Doug and Gail Nesbit started Doug Nesbit Funeral Services in June 1989. With 9 years in the industry prior to this and with the local community's encouragement and support, Doug decided to start his own business.

Stan and Bronwyn Leishman brought the funeral business of Doug and Gail in August 2020.

The current site of Doug Nesbit Funeral Services, previously housed a garden centre and florist, and as the business has grown, Doug has expanded the range of services he provides to the community.  All these services compliment the funeral service business including graphic design, monumental services, visual recording, engraving and catering.

Continuing working alongside Stan and Bronwyn Leishman are the same small team who can accommodate almost any request and are relaxed and respectful.

Doug and Gail are now accross the road at No. 9 James Street, McBrides Monumental and Signworks continuing to assist our South Otago Community with their monumental and signwriting requirements

Our Catering Team

Offering refreshments after a service is a very important aspect of the funeral service.  A wonderful time for meeting up with family and friends, sharing stories and memories of the person who has died.

Adjacent to our chapel we have a  light and comfortable reception lounge with a warm atmosphere with a fully equipped modern kitchen to cater for morning or afternoon teas after a funeral service.  Sandwiches and scones are prepared by our catering staff on the day of the funeral service.     We have three staff members in our catering team, Bronwyn Leishman, Christine King and Lyn Campbell.
