Funeral Notices for December 2017

 
McLEAN, Stephen Allan (Weetbix); aged 54 years.  On 1st December, 2017 at his home in Kaitangata. Dearly loved son of the late Ian and Margaret, loved brother and brother in law of Helen and Sandy Cain, and the late Joanne, cherished uncle of Toni and Cory, Kelsi and Kent, Nikki and Kerey, a loved great uncle, and a dear friend of Sandra and Dot.
A service for Weetbix will be held on Tuesday 5th December at 1.30pm in our Chapel, 12 James Street, Balclutha, followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to South Otago Cancer Society and Balclutha District Nurses would be appreciated and may be left at his service. Messages to P.O.Box 65, Cromwell.
 
BURGESS, Barry John (B.J.). Aged 52 years.  It is with great sadness, our family share the news of the passing of our loved and cherished Barry (B.J.) on December 2nd 2017 at the Otago Community Hospice, after a brave battle, surrounded by his two favourite girls.   Dearly loved husband of Robyn, adored father of Martin, beloved only son of Ida and John Burgess, much adored brother and brother-in-law of Jenny and Jeremy, Adele and David, and Megan, respected brother-in-law of Beverley and Alf, John and Tracey, Bruce and Lesley, Mary, Kathryn and Chris and a cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews of the Burgess and Martin families.
His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks of Robyn and B.J.’s friends, the Burgess and Martin families and the wider Owaka community who have cared and supported B.J. through his long illness.  A special mention of thanks to Dr. Alison Cook and her team from the Owaka Medical Centre, the Nephrology and Oncology departments at the Dunedin Hospital and the staff at the Otago Community Hospice for their continuous assistance in Barry’s medical care.  Our family acknowledges a huge debt of gratitude to the anonymous altruistic donor of Barry’s second kidney transplant, extending and enriching his life for a further eight years.   
A service to celebrate B.J.’s life will be held on Friday, December 8th at 1.30 p.m. in the Owaka Memorial Community Centre, followed by a private cremation.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at B.J’s service. ALDERMAN, Sherrie Diane; aged 63 years. Sherrie passed away suddenly on Saturday 9th December, 2017 at Clutha Health First. Loved daughter of the late John and Anita Alderman, sister of Terry and Lex Clearie, and Janet, cherished aunt of Danny, Jodene, and Adam; Brydie, Nick, and Dee, and great aunt of Chantel, Dylan, Tanisha, Courtney, Cassandra, Gabrielle, Bella, Isla, and Zayne, Connie, Marnina, Jessica, Bryce, and Luca, loved by her family in England and a dear friend of Hazel Saville.    “Sleep in heavenly peace”.  The family wish to thank all the doctors and nurses at Clutha Health first for all their wonderful care and attention given to Sherrie during her illness.   A celebration for Sherrie’s life will be held on Friday 15th December at 1.30pm in our Chapel, 12 James Street, Balclutha, followed by a private cremation. Messages to 9 Stewart Street, Balcutha.  
JURY, Lyndsay Edward. Lyndsay passed away peacefully on 8th December, 2017 at Clutha Views Lifecare. Loved twin brother of the late Leslie, & Jim and a special friend to the Bethune family, Kaitangata. At Lyndsay’s request, a private service has been held.  
SHANKS, Charles Robert (Charlie).  Suddenly, after a long illness, on December 14th 2017 at Dunedin Hospital; aged 75 years.  Dearly loved and loving husband of Alix, awesome dad and father-in-law of Bronwyn and Garry Sellwood, Brent, Justin and Cheri, a much loved grandad of Joshua and Ambah, Amy; Brandon, Casey, and Keely.    A service of farewell for Charlie will be held on Tuesday, December, 19th at 1.30 pm in the South Otago Town and Country Club, Yarmouth Street, Balclutha, followed by a private cremation. No flowers by request.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dialysis Unit at Dunedin Hospital would be appreciated and may be left at Charlie’s service.
